digiKam 7.0.0-beta3 is released

Dear digiKam fans and users,

Just few words to inform the community that 7.0.0-beta3 is out and ready to test two month later the second beta release published in February.

After a long test stage while this Covid-19 containment, this new version come with more than 670 bug-fixes since last stable release 6.4.0 and look very promising. Nothing is completed yet, as we plan one release candidate version before next summer, when we will publish officially the stable version. It still few bugs to fix while this pre-release campain and all help will be welcome from the community to stabilize codes.

After a long triaging stage, this new version come with more than 600 bug-fixes since last stable release 6.4.0 and look very promising. Nothing is completed yet, as we plan one beta version before next spring, when we will publish officially the stable version. It still bugs to fix while this beta campain and all help will be welcome from the community to stabilize codes.

digiKam Recipes 20.01.11 released

The first revision of the digiKam Recipes book in 2020 is here, and it packs new content.

The latest version of digiKam features the Healing Clone tool, and the Remove dust spots and imperfections with the Healing Clone tool part explains how to use this supremely useful feature. Starting with digiKam 6.4, you can use external RAW processing engines, and the Process RAW files with UFRaw part provides information on how to work with RAW photos using the UFRaw tool. Finally, Access digiKam remotely via SSH shows you how to access and use digiKam running on a remote machine.

Just in time to get you into the holiday spirit, we are now proud to release digiKam 7.0.0-beta1 today. This first version start the test stages for next 7.x series planing while next year. Have a look at some of the highlights listed below, to discover all those changes in detail.

Deep-Learning Powered Faces Management

While many years, digiKam has provided an important feature dedicated to detect and recognized faces in photo. The algorithms used in background (not based on deep learning) was older and unchanged since the first revision including this feature (digiKam 2.0.0). It was not enough powerful to facilitate the faces management workflow automatically.

We received a lot of excellent user feedback after publishing the 4th digiKam 6 release in September 2019. We are now proud to briefly announce the new digiKam 6.4.0, a maintenance version which consolidates this feedback and acts as an important phase of this 3-year-old project.

The Plugins Interface “DPlugins” Extended Again

With 6.1.0, digiKam project has introduced the new DPlugins interface to customize and extend the application. This powerful interface, available in digiKam and Showfoto, already manage all Generic tools to import/export items or edit metadata, Image Editor re-touch tools (colors editing, Transforms, Decorate, Effects, etc.), Batch Queue Manager tools to process many files at once.

New GMic-Qt plugin for Image Editor

Since digiKam 6.1.0, we open digiKam to external contributions with a collection of new plugin interfaces, named “Generic” for album items processing and export to web-services, “Editor” to extend Image Editor and Showfoto post processing, and “Bqm” to add new tools in Batch Queue Manager.
