digiKam Software Collection 3.0.0-beta3 is out..
Dear all digiKam fans and users!
After one summer of active development with Google Summer of Code 2012 students, and one two beta releases, digiKam team is proud to announce the third beta of digiKam Software Collection 3.0.0. This version is currently under development, following GoSC 2012 projects listed here.
See the list of files closed with this release into KDE bugzilla.
digiKam software collection tarball can be downloaded from KDE repository
This version is for testing purposes. Please do not use it yet in production!

because it's trying to track you, and if you have privacy and security extensions in FF, it can't do that. this is how you're coerced into sacrificing your privacy

I agree. This is extremely annoying. I thought the website was hacked or had technical problems. Requiring JavaScript and cookies makes no sense for a website like digikam.org. It worked perfectly before and, judging by the millions of websites that don't annoy the user in this way, it's not a must for security. Please return to respecting the visitors' privacy and, by the way, security.

Nobody? I'm also eagerly awaiting this capability. In fact, it is the only one Google SoC 2012 new feature I'm sorely missing.
What's the difference between an "under progess" and a "not completed" status?

Student working on this project as started to work too late and do not have provided a suitable solution... I think we will need to report this project in next GoSC 2013...

The GSoC student was working one of those who do just what it needed to get passed and disappeared with the last day of the project. Sometimes you can't know that in advance, his proposal was excellent.
At the moment, I dont have time to finish the work and/or complement it with the FisherFaces code from OpenCV. This is planned though.
picasa album import
Hi guys,
I regularly come back here to check if there is any progress on importing picasa albums. I found this bug/feature request from 2009, but there seems to be no progress whatsoever:

For me, not having picasa metadata import functionality in digikam (keep my local albums!) is the only reason for keeping around the outdated 3.0 version of picasa, after google has officially dropped linux support.
